State House Sesh & Cannabis Community Press Conference
February 8 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
The ‘State House Sesh’ is this Thursday, February 8, and is a gathering of the licensed cannabis community culminating with a press conference at 12:30pm in the Cedar Creek Room. Selected members of the licensed cannabis community and legislators will be invited to speak briefly (1-2 minutes each) about ongoing cannabis legislation and challenges.
The overarching goal of this event is to create a space for individual cannabis businesses to tell their respective stories, and for the larger cannabis industry to discuss policy together as we increase our collective visibility and impact.
Several cannabis businesses are members of associations; some have hired their own individual lobbyists.
To be clear, this event is not meant to discourage or interfere with those efforts and will only amplify the voices and impacts of all cannabis advocates. There are many common goals and all known associations have been invited to participate via this and previous emails.
Morning
I’ll be there all morning and will note that it’s pretty poignant that the same House Committee overseeing the initial cannabis bills (Government Operations) will be hearing from the Brewers’ Association earlier in the day.
12pm – Lunch with Advocates and/or Representatives
Folx are encouraged to make appointments with their respective representatives and spend the first half of the lunch hour discussing cannabis reforms and the challenges presently faced by your respective business(es). Lunch hour is busy, but myself and other advocates will be eating lunch at the largest table we can reserve, so you’re welcome to join us or speak privately with your rep(s).
12:30pm – Press Conference in the Cedar Room
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend; this will be a high-traffic and high-visibility location and time. Individual speakers and legislators will be coordinated separately.
1:00pm – Community Discussion & Advocacy Strategy Roundtable in the Cafeteria
For people who are in the building, there’s an opportunity to gather together to talk about common challenges and organize amongst ourselves and those allies also in the building. Following the press conference, I’d propose that those of us who are present gather for an informal roundtable discussion in the cafeteria and talk about strategic outreach and initiatives.
